Open Rank Faculty Position in Communication and Health
The Department of Communication Studies at Northwestern University’s School of Communication seeks one open rank, tenure-track faculty member with expertise in communication and health for a position to begin as early as September 1, 2016. The faculty member will be part of the School’s recently established Center for Communication and Health.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
· A record of achievement in teaching, research, and service;
· A thorough background in communication theory and research;
· The ability to lead and work effectively in interdisciplinary teams across the social sciences, engineering, medicine, and allied health disciplines;
· A career commitment to the study and improvement of communication process and practices related to health information, health decision-making/behavior, health care quality and safety, health informatics, human-computer interaction, or systems engineering/design;
· A record of high quality, high impact externally-funded collaborative and interdisciplinary research in the area of communication and health;
· Success in developing and teaching curricula for students planning careers in health care;
· Success in leading and managing research collaborations.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
organize and lead a successful interdisciplinary research program involving faculty from communication, engineering, and medicine;
teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including courses in the professional MS program in Health Communication;
participate in the governance, growth and development of the Center for Communication and Health
