The Contracts Manager (Contracts Group)-Specialist is responsible for administering and coordinating proposals, awards, incoming subawards, clinical trial agreements, corporate sponsored research agreements, and other contract types as needed, for support of research, training, and other sponsored activities at The University of Chicago. The external funding to the University is provided by various sources - federal; non-profit; for-profit; pharmaceutical companies and other non-federal biomedical sponsors; and governmental non-federal sources, including foreign entities. The individual in this position is responsible for pre-award and non-financial post-award activities for all sponsored projects for the University departments and units assigned to the position. The individual is a member of a Team and must contribute to the team effort, as needed. This might involve assisting colleagues to ensure timely campus service. This position requires rapid proficiency in the AURA-GRANTS web-application system. Incumbents are expected to review and process proposals, awards, and other grant and contract activity within AURA-GRANTS. The individual in this position has contact with individuals at companies and institutions regarding all agreement/contract types; the individual has contact with faculty and administrative staff at the University; and on occasions with staff of the federal government, non-federal sponsors and other organizations. Essential Functions: (65%) Negotiates acceptable terms and conditions in accordance with the specific primary funding sponsors' provisions, University's policies applicable to sponsored projects; partner institution's/organization's input; input from the University's principal investigators, administrators and central administration. (10%) Monitor post-award activities, such as requests for supplemental funding; requests for extension of the period of performance for sponsored projects; obtaining sponsor approvals for major changes to project workscope or major changes to anticipated expenditures, etc. (5%) Review binding contractual terms in applications and assist faculty and administrative staff in the preparation of applications for compliance with sponsor and institutional policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations (5%) Transmit proposals and other documents, including report submission, using various sponsors' systems ? federal and non-federal (5%) Confirm appropriate evidence of approvals that commitments made in proposals can be honored, to help protect the University from harm and potential claims that might arise against the University from work done under a sponsored agreement Other Functions: (5%) Assist colleagues during high volume periods, vacations, and as needed (5%) Attend meetings; contribute to overall assessment and improvement of office operations
