We are currently seeking a Metrology Engineer to be part of our new, state-of-the-art injection molding facility, which is located in Columbus, NE and manufactures medical devices. This site will be the Center of Excellence of injection molding for one of the largest injection molding companies in the world. Factory of the future technologies employed at the Center of Excellence will include all electric injection molding presses, automatic resin handling systems, in-mold sensor technology, robotic part removal, automated component handling and inspection and automated mold changes. Successful candidate will plan, design and coordinate the development and implementation of measurement systems and related quality/engineering activities in COL COE to support new product development projects through manufacturing scale-up, as well as existing production in the new BDX molding COE. In addition, you will provide measurement systems development and analysis support to new product development and technology teams, as well as ensure compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and practices and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures.
Planning, implementing and coordinating new measurement system development activities and changes to existing measurement systems. Utilizing CAD, Contact, Non-Contact and CT Scanning metrology tools and instrumentation.
Interfacing with personnel from R&D, Device Molding, Quality, Manufacturing, Process/Assembly Technology and outside metrology vendors.
Providing metrology support (Part Measurements, MSD/MSA, Fixture Design, GR&R, Data Analysis, Design Definition) for qualification and validation activities for new products, processes, changes and transfers as required.
Focusing on specific technical projects in molding or other engineering disciplines assigned by Manager.
Coordinating and communicating assigned projects with appropriate personnel & departments
Specify metrology equipment, fixtures and procedures for new part designs that meet accuracy and repeatability (GR&R) requirements.
Writing capital expenditure requests for equipment as needed.
Preparing and managing the budget for metrology projects.
Installing new metrology equipment and fixtures to support new product development, existing molding/manufacturing process changes, replication or scale-up.
Overseeing all documentation and training.
Initiating cost saving opportunities, performing CI and quality fix projects as assigned.
Developing and implementing metrology processes for pilot production and scale-up programs.
Leading projects and supervising technicians to complete projects.
Handling other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Plastics, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering
Three (3) yrs. experience in related metrology engineering field preferred
Experience with Statistical Analysis software, Solid Works, Visio, MS Office, Lotus Notes and MS Project preferred
Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certification preferred
Superior analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
Excellent Oral and written communication skills
Proficiency with KSA’s and Advanced/Specialized KSA
