The EP Lab Cardiac Services RN functions as an agent of thepatient while providing the full scope of nursing care. Analyzes information,monitors patients, and takes actions to facilitate wellness and healing. Roleis professional, specialized, and connected to an episode of nursing care.Demonstrates leadership and clinical expertise through participation in nursingshared governance, continual learning, and advancing department goals.
A. Applies nursing knowledge and utilizes evidence based practice in demonstration of Healthcare Knowledge and Skills: (1) Systematic and continual collection and analysis of patient Information. (2) Collaborates with patient/family, physicians, and other healthcare team members to prioritize patient's needs and goals; intervenes as necessary. (3) Evaluates, compares, and interprets ambiguous and changing patient data. (4) Uses cardiac and nursing knowledge of physiology to perform independent assessments, analyze information, monitor, detect, and anticipates early and subtle health status changes.
B. Applies nursing knowledge and utilizes evidence based practice in demonstration of Patient Observation and Monitoring: (1) Applies nursing judgment to determine level of care needed. (2) Monitors trends and records patient response to disease, illness, and treatment. (3) Contributes to patient plan of care in collaboration with physicians and healthcare team members.
C. Applies nursing knowledge and utilizes evidence based practice in demonstration of Intervention/Nursing action to implement plan of care: (1) Applies specialized expertise to solve problems, generate ideas, plan care, and create new processes. (2) Maintains purposeful therapeutic presence with patients based on nursing judgment. (3) Provides care based on patient complexity and nursing judgment. (4) Uses patients' perspective to support informed decision-making. (5) Determine data to be collected to evaluate outcome of care; evaluates, compares, and interprets ambiguous and changing patient data.
D. Teamwork: (1) Uses scientific background, knowledge of change theory, ability to work with an interdisciplinary team, and psychosocial skills to coordinate effective and efficient care for the patient. (2) Strives to develop a strong team by offering innovative ideas and assuming informal or formal leadership role. (3) Foster teamwork and respect. Recognize and value contributions of coworkers. (4) Assures effective use of staffing resources.
E. Communication: (1) Effectively communicates data and response to care with the care team. (2) Exhibit an approachable, interactive communication style. (3) Communicate relevant issues to the appropriate management and/or councils. (4) Respects the confidentiality and dignity of patients. (5) Communicates effectively with patients and families.
F. Professional and Organizational Responsibilities: (1) Ascribes to the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics for professional nursing practice. (2) Maintains competencies required for the department position and contributes to the organization's mission and goals. (3) Adheres to St. Mary's and department's policies and procedures. (4) Promotes culturally congruent care. (5) Promotes continuous learning. (6) Demonstrates dependability, organizational skills, and effective use of time by setting priorities to orchestrate the plan of care and work flow within established time frames. (7) Commits to Invasive Cardiac Services Whole System Shared Decision Making (WSSDM) model. (8) Performs other job responsibilities as requested.
G. Technical Skills: Demonstrates competence in the roles required of: (1) Scrub role, sterile technique, x-ray, or (2) Monitor role, ECG, Hemodynamics, or (3) Circulate, supports roles during procedures, or (4) Nursing, Conscious Sedation.
ADN, BSN/BAN, or Diploma in Nursing is required.
Wisconsin RN License; Basic Life Support (BLS);Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS) within six months of expiration and/orhire date.
Cardiac health care experience required.
Expert professional nursing knowledge andskills; ability to apply knowledge; anticipate, think, and respond quickly;therapeutic presence; caring, psychosocial skills; team performance,communication, coordination, continuous learning and teaching.
BSN/BAN is preferred.
Specialty certification in cardiac or criticalcare nursing is preferred.
Cardiac EP Lab, Cardiac Cath Lab and or criticalcare nursing experience is preferred.
