The Program Advisor for Fraternity and Sorority Life will facilitate student success through development, delivery and assessment of educational programs, and advocate for the Greek experience at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. Reporting to the Program Director in the Office for Fraternity & Sorority Life, the Program Advisor supports community programming and serves as the primary University point of contact for two governing councils and their affiliated chapter leaders.
The Program Advisor will assist the office and provide leadership in the following areas:
Advising and Student Support (50%) • Primary advisor for the Panhellenic Council (PHC) and Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) leadership and for fraternities and sororities affiliated with each council • Support council programming and recruitment and intake processes • Oversee the formation and advisement of Gamma Sigma Alpha and other honorary groups as appropriate • Interpretation and guidance on relevant University, council, inter-national organization and umbrella organization policies
Programmatic Development & Support (35%) • Advise programmatic efforts around Homecoming and/or Machy Days (Greek Week) • Lead new programmatic initiatives as identified and needed, including Greek Preview Days and Greek Ambassador program • Develop and implement comprehensive leadership development curriculum for Emerging Greek Leaders Program, annual chapter leadership retreat and monthly all-chapter president meetings • Advise the planning and implementation of annual Greek Awards Program, including application process, judge identification and on-site logistical considerations • Assessment of programs to identify trends and dictate future programming
Office Support (15%) • Supervision of student office assistants • Manage office social media accounts to promote and publicize community events • Represent office on division and university-wide committees • Paperwork management related to roster updates, grade reports, and new member/intake report forms
Other duties as assigned as needed and desired.
This position is in the Academic Professional classification. It is a 12-month, full-time annually renewable appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, and includes University benefits. The Program Advisor receives generous allocation of funds to be utilized for professional development opportunities.
Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of experience working with students and/or student organizations or related field from which equivalent skills are obtained • Knowledge of fraternity and sorority life general operations, organization and structure
Preferred Qualifications • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel or a related field • Membership in a fraternity or sorority or experience working in fraternity and sorority life • Employment at an inter-national headquarters office or service as an alumni volunteer for a fraternal organization • Familiarity with Panhellenic Council formal recruitment process and National Panhellenic Conference policies and procedures
