The optometrist will work in the Department of Surgery, Ophthalmology Services, Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii.
Perform specialized ocular diagnostic procedures that shall include, but not be restricted to, dilated retinal examination, cycloplegic refraction, Applanation tonometry, gonioscopy and visual field analysis by automated perimetry, and corneal topography. Perform all aspects of comprehensive optometric exam.
Preoperative and postoperative management of refractive surgery patients. (This may require contract employee to see postoperative patients on Saturdays on an infrequent basis. Scheduled Saturday clinic time will be billed to the government for a minimum of two hours.
All aspects of routine and specialty contact lens care.
Coordinate with the medical staff in other departments to provide complete care to patients.
Provide and document telephonic medical advice to patients as appropriate and in accordance with MTF protocols.
Attend periodic meetings of department staff to review and evaluate the care and treatment provided to patients. Review compliance with the MTF quality control program and the standard operating procedures of the MTF.
Participate in clinical research directed by the Department Chief.
Provide clinical education and instruction to optometry students, residents and visiting clinicians.
Performs administrative tasks associated with the clinical operations in accordance with those of a credentialed provider.
Attend annual training at the military refractive surgery standards symposium.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Must possess a Doctorate in Optometry from an accredited college approved by the Council of Optometric Education of the American Optometric Association.
Must possess a current unrestricted license to practice Therapeutic Optometry in the United States, its territories or provinces.
Must have a minimum of two years post licensure experiences; should have a minimum one year exposure to refractive surgery management; and must have a minimum one experience in clinical research.
