The San Mateo County Health System is searching for a Project Manager to join our Project Management Program within the Health Information Technology Division. This individual will be responsible for requirements gathering, team management and project planning for software solutions. The candidate will effectively document, analyze, communicate and report on defined deliverables, resource requirements, work plans and budgets, and barriers to success related to client projects. The candidate must have strong communication skills and be comfortable working with front line staff, management, technical staff and external vendors.
Under general supervision, this individual plans, coordinates and manages small, department-specific information services projects through their entire project life cycle, including identifying users' needs, gathering detailed requirements, analyzing project feasibility, developing project scope and estimating budget, designing and programming systems applications, technical review and systems testing, and overseeing implementation. Also, administers professional services contracts and performs related work as required.
This individual will be responsible for:
Business Requirements Gathering: Lead client requirements gathering sessions and accurately document business requirements.
Business Analysis: Ability to gain a deep understanding of written and verbal business requirements and to transform those business requirements into functional requirements.
Project Leadership: Coordinate budget, schedule, work plans and client updates for multiple clients.
Project Management: Manage/develop change requests, work breakdown structures, test plans, user guides, and capability discovery and delivery road maps.
Identify, manage and mitigate risks and issues to minimize impact to project scope, goals, budget and schedule.
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
At least a Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited university
3-5 years' experience in Health Case Management Applications as a Project Lead, Project Manager or equivalent role
5-7 years' experience in Healthcare Information Technology as a Project Manager
A solid understanding of project leadership principles; candidate must demonstrate their approach to project scheduling, scope and budget development
Ability to solve problems, identify solutions and appropriately escalate issues
Ability to: Identify, analyze and solve problems; communicate effectively with all levels of personnel throughout the organization; achieve established deadlines and manage change effectively; and review products/solutions for integrity (accuracy, validity, precision, security, completeness)
A typical way to qualify is: equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in management information systems, computer science or a related field and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in performing information technology/systems project management specific to the specialty area assigned which includes infrastructure or application implementation and integration projects. Additional related experience may substitute for education requirement on a year-for-year basis, up to four (4) years. Some positions may require possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License; a valid Project Management Professional (PMP), Program Management Professional (PgMP) or equivalent certification; and/or industry-recognized information technology certifications.
This is a limited term, at-will position with an expected duration between 18 to 36 months and not allowed to exceed 3 years. Limited Term employees receive full medical and dental benefits, similar to regular employees, and a portable 401(a) plan.
