Under the direction of the Dean, the Assistant Dean organizes, plans and directs major review and planning, staffing needs, curriculum development (including general studies and core course),marketing/outreach and grants development for Information Technology programs in the school. The assistant dean also works as a liaison with other Schools and administrative offices to facilitate matters arising in related fields.
Examples of Work:
- Lead and direct the development, implementation, and academic review of undergraduate and graduate degree programs and certificates in Information Technology (IT) to ensure requirements adhere to College policies and standards. - Oversee the computer infrastructure for the School"s IT programs in relation to degree audit evaluations, curriculum management, course equivalencies, course descriptions, faculty database course information, and other assigned areas. - Assist the Dean in overseeing academic policies for the School. - Assist the Dean to develop, implement and direct business/strategic plans for IT programs. - Review and respond to information from various departments regarding student evaluations, appropriate degree selections, student appeals and grievances, and other degree program action items as related to the IT programs. - Gather and analyze data for reports. - Assist the marketing office with academic content of College publications and external publications relating to the degree programs, including, but not limited to, the College Catalog, Prospectus, and Program Planning Handbook. - Assist in the writing of grants to fund the enhancement of AST programs and curriculum. - Ensure the high quality, currency and relevance of the IT programs through activities such as periodic academic reviews,continuous improvement based on feedback from industry and government organizational partners, students, alumni and other stakeholders and overseeing the development and implementation of the program's learning outcomes assessment. - Recruit, approve, and evaluate the quality of consulting mentors for IT. - Develop and implement mentor (I.e. adjuncts) orientation and communications. - Responsible for outreach and the development of strong alliances with the external community. - Assist with marketing initiatives to foster the growth of IT programs. - Collaborate with Office of Corporate Partnership, Office of Military Education, Office of Enrollment Management , Office of Learner Services, and other appropriate offices to develop enrollment management strategies and initiatives that promote degree programs to various constituencies. - Actively participate in professional organizations, attend and/or give presentations at local and national conferences. - Represent the College with internal and external audiences.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the philosophy and practices of higher education and familiarity with the standards and policies pertaining to adult learning and educational technologies. - Knowledge of the current issues and trends in adult learning, distance education and online education. - Graduate level academic degree in Information Technology or Computer Science and several years of professional experience in the field.. - Knowledge of quality management and continuous improvement for academic programs and services. - Ability to work with professional and support staff, and the community at large. - Ability to work at a distance with students, mentors and other stakeholder communities. - Ability to use technology to communicate, synthesize information, prepare and deliver reports.
Education: A Master's degree in an appropriate academic discipline, doctorate preferred or the equivalence as determined by the appointing authority.
A minimum of four years of college-level teaching and/or administrative experience or equivalence as determined by the appointing authority.
