Extension is a self-funded division of the University of California, San Diego. With an operating budget of approximately $50 million and approximately 220 employees and 1,000 part-time instructors, the division provides continuing education to adults in a University context. In addition to a wide variety of professional and personal enrichment topics of study, Extension supports a television studio, a large Englishlanguage program, a retired persons program, college preparation programs for high school students, a career enhancement center, and research relating to emerging industries and career opportunities. Participants and partners in Extension programs include individuals,corporations, government agencies and other academic institutions. Extension is also located in multiple sites across the county and is embarking on a major downtown building initiative known as UC San Diego.Urban.
The Executive Director serves as a key advisor to the Dean of Extension in initiating and developing the strategic direction and long- and short-range plans of the San Diego Innovation Center, a strategic partner in Extension's urban outreach. Specifically, the Executive Director is responsible for the conceptual development, community outreach/civic engagement, business planning, venue evaluation/selection, and execution of a major new initiative to highlight, celebrate, and engage the public in San Diego's unique innovation story. Additionally, serves as a strategic advisor to UCSD Extension as it builds out UCSD.Urban in order to achieve synergies and complementary collaborations between two major parallel Downtown San Diego developments focused on enhancing the innovation capacity of the region whilestrengthening its global reputation as a leading center of life changing research and development.

Demonstrated success in conceiving, designing, and executing large-scale public visitor centers, exhibitions, and/or museums.
Advanced skills in short- and long-range planning, program and project management, facilitation and collaboration. Proven experience working effectively with 3rd party design, marketing, and operational consultants in shaping a comprehensive and sustainable business plan.
Demonstrated success in cultivating and securing capital funding from corporations, foundations, and private individuals.
Demonstrated experience successfully managing annual budgets in excess of $1M dollars.
Demonstrated curatorial, museum, exhibition, and creative project development and implementation experience.
