Pingree School, an independent co-educational day school for grades 9-12, seeks a highly-motivated, well-organized, and responsible individual to serve as a part time Academic Skills tutor. This position is to begin in September 2017. The tutor will work with individual students during their free periods in the Educational Resource Center. The tutor will assist students in various subjects to learn test preparation skills, time management, and organizational strategies (notes, homework, and information retention). The successful candidate will specialize in working with a variety of learning profiles. The hours of the position vary depending on student schedules and needs, but will fall within the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. during weekdays.
Specific duties include:
To provide support in study skills and organizational strategies for assigned students
To help students implement test preparation and time management strategies
To assist students in organizing their homework, notes and information retention
To communicate with the assigned students’ teachers and advisors regarding assignments, concerns and progress
To provide the number of required support sessions as deemed by the Director of ERC
To consult with Director of ERC with any concerns or recommendations for assigned students
To provide bi-weekly reports to the parents of assigned students and respond to parent inquiries as needed

Qualifications and skills include:
A bachelor’s degree in education, psychology or a related field is required, and a master’s degree is preferred
A minimum of two years’ classroom teaching at the high school level is required
Experience with tutoring students with various learning styles is required
Special education experience is considered
Must have flexibility in scheduling during the school day
The successful candidate will be patient, creative, organized, and responsive
Superior communication skills are required
Applicants must demonstrate enthusiasm for the role and a passion for learning
Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. and must agree to and successfully complete a criminal background check
