Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Technician.
In this role, the successful candidate Responsible for performing advanced lab duties under direct supervision of PI and Postdoctoral Fellows. Assist PI and Postdoctoral Fellows in basic and advanced procedures.
Perform general animal care functions which include safe mice handling, administering anesthesia, analgesics or reagents via injections, monitoring the health and welfare of animals, reporting any abnormal animal conditions to the veterinarian and/or floor supervisor. Procedures performed include dissections, glucose tolerance tests and sample collection (blood/tissue samples etc.).
Perform and/or assist in in vitro assays using mammalian/insect cells, including tissue culture assays, transfections, PCR, western blotting. Perform general laboratory functions including cell/bacteria maintenance and cultivation.
Perform general lab support duties including calibration and coordination of preventive maintenance of equipment, and proper handling of chemicals and solutions. Operate laboratory equipment to include but not limited to autoclaves, spectrophotometers, incubators, microscopes and balances. Handles and prepares laboratory samples and solutions as required by specific protocols.
Assist PI and Fellows in developing and implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments. Maintain and update knowledge. Record results and observations, organize gathered data, perform basic calculations and support laboratory investigators.
Cooperate, communicate and relate well to all levels of the Medical Center personnel. Listen carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answers questions or obtains needed information. Communicate ideas, problems, suggestions or messages in a timely and effective manner. Maintains confidentiality of all research information.
Able to recognize problems as they present and evaluate, determine or recommend the appropriate solution. Seek guidance as necessary for the performance of duties, ask appropriate questions when in doubt. Advise appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention by the PI or requiring follow up attention.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Bachelor Degree in Life Sciences or related fields with at least one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Master Degree in Life Sciences or in related field preferred. Experience in basic areas of cellular and molecular biology (tissue culture, western blotting, RNA analysis etc) and in animal handling, including performing dissections and physiological tests.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
