The Speech-Language Pathologist performs assessment and treatmentof children/adults at St. Mary's Hospital.
Demonstrates knowledge of Speech-Language Pathology practice. Maintains professional competency and incorporates into evidence-based practice. Identifies, plans, and implements patient care in collaboration with patient, family, and interdisciplinary team. Provides appropriate education and discharge recommendations.
Performs screening evaluations of patients with possible speech, language, cognitive, or swallowing difficulties in response to requests from nursing, dietitian, rehab, or other staff.
Documents patient cares in the EHR in compliance with department, JCAHO, and other regulatory standards, including formal/informal assessment results, observations, responses to treatment, and recommendations. Respects confidentiality of patient's medical and speech-language pathology records in accordance with HIPPA, hospital, and department standards.
Accurately submits patient charges in accordance with hospital, department, and insurance (private, Medicare, Medicaid) standards/requirements.
Exhibits effective interpersonal communications with all individuals, including peers, MD, interdisciplinary staff, supervisors, patients, and families. Consults with MD and/or supervisor when situation warrants.
Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional practice, continuing education, and competency (i.e. mandatory in-services, meeting, CRP's, department competencies). Seeks learning opportunities. Maintains professional license.
Contributes as an effective team member. Participates in hospital and department QI initiatives. Initiates SLP CQI studies and program development. Actively participates in departmental problem-solving and goal-setting. Offers and seeks solutions to issues. Supports colleagues and team activities. Abides by team decisions.
Is accountable for hospital/department changes affecting work performance. Reads posted memos/announcements and meeting minutes if not in attendance.
Actively participates and is knowledgeable in Shared Governance as defined at St. Mary's Hospital and in the Rehab department.
Exhibits the values and philosophy of SSM Health Care and St. Mary's Hospital in daily activities. Performs job functions in accordance with hospital/department policy.
Performs other duties as requested.
Master's Degree in Speech- Language Pathology from an accredited university program
State licensure as a speech-language pathologist
The clinician must possess the Certification of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, or be in the process of completing the Clinical Fellowship Year
Preferred accomplishments include relevant clinical experience, including at least two years' experience as a speech-language pathologist working with adults and children in a medical setting
