The Position: Assistant Professor of Mathematics
The Mathematics and Computer Science Department at Whitworth University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics faculty. Candidates must be able to teach a variety of undergraduate courses including calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and analysis.
Mathematics and computer science faculty at Whitworth University operate in a friendly atmosphere that encourages interaction between faculty and students. Instructors are expected to be excited about interacting and working with students from a variety of mathematical backgrounds. Â Candidates must have a strong commitment to teaching excellence and the ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate mathematics courses.
Mathematics professors at Whitworth teach both introductory and upper division mathematics courses; participate in advising freshman through the University-wide freshman advising program; advise mathematics majors and minors; collaborate with students on research projects; participate in departmental activities such as curriculum development, long-range planning, recruiting, and other activities essential to the efficient operation of the department; participate in university retreats; contribute to university governance including service on committees and participating in faculty assemblies; a willingness to collaborate across the disciplines; engage in professional development including state, regional, and national professional associations; engage in scholarly activities.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities
The department will consider candidates who have a Ph.D. in mathematics or applied mathematics or who have completed all but their Ph.D. dissertation (ABD) with a solid plan for completion of their dissertation in mathematics or applied mathematics by August 2018.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral English.
Demonstrated effectiveness in college-level undergraduate teaching, possessing strong relational skills with students and colleagues.
Evidence of scholarly activity and commitment to pursuing further research.
Demonstrated awareness and commitment to effectively establishing relationships and positive communications across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to race, gender, physical limitations, class or religious perspectives.
Commitment to providing an equitable, just, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
Must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States by the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue to work legally for the proposed term of employment.
