Reporting to the AVP, Enterprise Applications Platform (EAP); the Sr. Director of Enterprise Business Intelligence Solutions (EBIS), is responsible for overseeing and supporting the current and future state of the University's reporting, analytics, data integration and data governance needs. The Sr. Director is responsible for providing leadership in developing a strategy, roadmap and implementation plan. He/She is also responsible for the ongoing daily operational support needs in the EBIS area. The incumbent acts as a spokesperson and an advocate to promote business intelligence and analytics best practices across the University and leading the effort to bring synergies across the organization.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: -Leads a department of 14+ people supporting Columbia University's reporting, analytics and data governance needs. -Sets performance objectives for department. Regularly provides guidance, and coaching to team members for performance and career development. -Represents the group to senior management across University administration and client organizations. -Translates and incorporates business vision and strategy to architectural strategy recommendations at the enterprise level. -Draws on experience and/or expert resources with in-depth knowledge of the business or function to provide University-wide solutions, by developing complex, multi-faceted software applications. -Researches and recommends new technologies in support of the strategic direction of the University and brings new capabilities to the organization on an ongoing basis. -Participates in the research and recommendation of appropriate models, methods, tools, and technologies to achieve University-wide solutions. -All other duties as assigned.
General Minimum Qualifications: -Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree desirable. -Minimum 8-10 years' related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: -8-10 years' experience in senior management overseeing data warehouse and analytics practice. -8-10 years' leadership experience implementing BI and Analytic tools. -8-10 years' prior experience directing a BI team, leading strategic initiatives including implementing new technology and BI best practices. -5+ years' prior experience managing and leading enterprise level teams. -Experience in DW design, Big Data, Data Lake, Analytics and Data Science disciplines such as statistical modeling. -Experience managing Operational Support and Change Control. -Proven experience managing large projects, overseeing change management and introduction of new technical capabilities across organization is essential. -Prior experience developing project plans, resource plans, schedules, project requirements and scope documents. -Excellent understanding of a systems development lifecycle methodology. -Proven experienced implementing Data Warehouse and Data Mart architectures (i.e. Kimball). -Excellent written and verbal communication skills. -Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. -Demonstrated excellence in a variety of competencies including teamwork/collaboration, analytical thinking, communication and influencing skills, and technical expertise. -Ability to work with changing priorities and with multiple projects. -Ability to be precise and attentive to detail is essential. -Ability to work with minimal supervision. -Ability to work weekend and off-hour work on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications: -More than 3 years' experience in Big Data, data discovery tools and predictive analytics is a strong plus. -ITIL and PMP certification. -ServiceNow experience for incident and change management. -Work experience with WEBI and/or Universe Designer. -Knowledge of Business Objects XI (BOXI) Administration in version 3.1 or 4.1 -Experienced at working with users to build analytical reports with a visual analytics tool (i.e. Lumira, Tableau, Qlikview, Power BI, SAS/JMP, "R", etc.) -Experience with a Predictive Analytics tool. -Experience reporting with PeopleSoft Financials or HR data. -Experience implementing enterprise Business Objects solutions (i.e. 1000+ users) -Experience implementing Data Governance. Familiar with Metadata Management and Data Quality Concepts. -Experience working with Higher Education data. -Familiarity with basic statistics: statistical tests, distributions, p-value, etc. -Experience with Business Objects Data Services (BODS, a.k.a. Data Integrator) -Experience managing or performing Business Objects (BOXI) administration.
