The Compliance Officer will oversee the institution's animal care and use program, research involving biohazardous agents, and research using ionizing and non-ionizing radiation sources or devices by managing the functions of the IACUC, IBC, and RSC compliance committees. Responsibilities include maintaining records of protocols and official files of committee decisions; advising and educating; and reporting annually to the various regulatory agencies (i.e., OLAW, OBA). He/She will also provide consultation to the Office of Sponsored Programs, faculty, staff and administrators regarding the interpretation of federal regulations for research compliance. He/She will develop and implement a comprehensive educational and training program that ensures accountability for and compliance with applicable regulations and the standards of conduct for administrators, faculty, staff and students. He/She will manage the confidential institution-wide research compliance reporting system and administer the intake, review, investigation, and resolution of applications of federal assurances of compliance. The Compliance Officer will perform other duties as required. This position reports to the Director of Research Compliance and Ethics in the Division of Research and Economic Development.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Division of Research and Economic Development (DORED) provides services to faculty and student researchers, to current and potential research partners, funding agencies, and economic development agencies. It is headed by the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development.
The Office of Research Compliance and Ethics works with researchers and the university's research oversight committees to ensure ethical conduct and compliance with regulations. It also handles export control, conflicts of interest and training in compliance and ethics.
The Office of Undergraduate Research promotes opportunities for undergraduates to conduct research and holds symposia and other events that give students experience in presenting their research.
