The lab of Dr. Joshua Thaler (https://depts.washington.edu/doce/our-research/researchprograms/thaler-laboratory) in the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Nutrition seeks a postdoctoral fellow for a collaborative research project with Novo Nordisk Research Center (NNRC) in Seattle on CNS regulation of body weight and glucose homeostasis. Our lab was among the first to describe the process of hypothalamic gliosis that occurs in obese rodents and humans (JCI 2012 v122 p153). This project involves an investigation of the functional contribution of microglia to obesity pathogenesis and studies to identify pathways that govern the crosstalk between microglia and neurons that regulate energy balance. The candidate will also participate in our program of developing glial cell tools including chemogenetic, optogenetic, cell transfer, and transcriptomics studies. We are seeking a qualified postdoctoral fellow (Ph.D. and/or M.D. required) to begin immediately (must be appointed by October 1st, 2016). Ideally, the candidate will have a strong background in neuroscience, immunology, molecular biology, or stem cell biology.
