The Assistant Director will recruit, train, and manage Portland State University's (PSU) agent and international third-party recruitment partner relationships. The incumbent will develop and maintain relationships with external entities in the United States and abroad which enhance PSU's ability to attract quality international students such as parents and potential students, officials of the U.S. and foreign governments, international organizations and educational institutions, and educational advising partners or agents. The incumbent will be responsible for one international recruitment territory and along side the incumbent's agent/third-party recruitment responsibilities. The incumbent will plan and conduct lengthy recruitment travel overseas multiple times each year for periods as long as 3 to 4 weeks at a time in all parts of the world but with a particular focus on various regions of mainland China. The incumbent will be supervised by the Associate Director of Undergraduate International Recruitment and work closely with the Associate Vice Provost of Internationalization, the Director of the Intensive English Language Program, the Director of International Partnerships, and the Sponsored Student Program Administrator. The incumbent will have insight and market intelligence as it relates to the recruitment of students who will pursue language coursework prior to enrollment in degree programs. The incumbent will demonstrate an understanding of PSU's admission requirements and Pathway program. The incumbent will grow, manage, and oversee the university's use of international agents and third-party recruitment partnerships with guidance and consent from the Associate Director of Undergraduate International Admission and the Director of the Intensive English Language Program. The incumbent will implement innovative and effective strategies, programs and policies to ensure Portland State University meets international enrollment goals. The assistant director works extensively and collaboratively with key constituencies on and off campus to ensure optimal effectiveness throughout the international recruitment, admission, and enrollment process.
1. Bachelor's degree 2. Three years of full-time experience in international admission, international student advising, or closely related field 3. Demonstrated experience in the recruitment, management, and training of international agent/third-party university recruitment partners. 4. Demonstrated success recruiting international students from various regions of the world, with particular focus on China and greater eastern and northern Asia. 5. Strong intercultural and interpersonal communication skills; strong relationship management skills. 6. Extensive experience managing programs involving complex multi-cultural issues within large organizations. 7. Extensive experience with enrollment management and planning and conducting extensive international recruitment 8. Demonstrated computer skills including proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite, Ellucian Banner (or equivalent), mobile technologies, Google suite of Drive products, and social media 9. Demonstrated ability to interact cooperatively and sensitively with individuals from other cultures, ethnic groups, lifestyles and backgrounds, and with individuals who may not be native English language speakers 10. Knowledge about all Homeland Security regulations pertaining to international students and their dependents on temporary visas, including updates in immigration laws. 11. Ability to travel abroad 4-8 weeks a year. Ability to critically and logically analyze, synthesize, interpret, and extrapolate admission data, regulations, policies, procedures, and protocols. 12. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, pay attention to details, and produce desired results 13. Ability to communicate in a clear, friendly, and effective manner both orally and in writing with diverse constituencies
Masters degree. 1. One year of directly related experience 2. Experience working with agents at a large public university managing or working with a third-party pathway agent network. 3. Extensive experience with relationship management in recruiting, vetting, and management of third-party international recruitment agencies.
