This is a 2017-2018 Academic Wage: Technical Writing Evaluator Pool Posting. This recruitment will be used to fill three to eight part-time Academic Wage position(s) for the School of Mechanical, Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Oregon State University (OSU).
The purpose of this position is to grade the quality of writing of student written reports in the MIME capstone senior project class. Capstone senior project is MIME's writing intensive class (WIC) and thus detailed grading of student writing is required. The need for grading is not consistent during the class. Grading is only needed for a week following the submission of reports which only occurs 1-3 times per term. For this reason, this position will be part time. In addition to grading, it is expected a relatively small amount of time will be required for orientation sessions and meetings with the MIME course coordinator and course instructors. Also, some communication to answer student questions on grading is likely. Since all reports will be submitted online and all meetings and communication could be online as well, this position does not require being on campus.
The defined qualifications will need to be identified in the Minimum/Required Qualifications field.
-Bachelor's degree in technical writing, engineering, or related field -Experience as a technical writer in industry or government sector -Demonstrated mastery of standard written and spoken English -Strong attention to detail -Demonstrated interest in encouraging and facilitating discipline-specific writing skills development -Ability to work within an established course/curriculum structure
