This position will be an integral part of the finance team preparing in-depth financial reporting and analysis for the business segment, and engaging with others across the team including FP&A, Billing and Collections, and Operational Accounting. Prepare and Analyze Financial Statements and ReportsAssist with or lead the month end and quarterly end close process for assigned businesses or groups and apply GAAP standards to accounting / financial reportingDemonstrate understanding of relationship among accounts, and document unusual activityPerform ad hoc reporting and analysis and investigate issues providing explanations and interpretationParticipate in the analysis and preparation of financial statements and various census reports and surveysDevelop systematic reporting processes and procedures to ensure timely delivery of daily, weekly, monthly, annual and ad hoc reporting to managementTransfer data into meaningful, professional and easy to understand formats for various audiencesSeek opportunities to educate business partners on accounting policies and processesPrepare documentation in support of external and internal auditsDevelop and maintain well formatted financial reports to clearly communicate actual results, forecasted performance and variances to plan, forecast, budget, and prior year.Works with less structured , more complex issuesServes as a resource to othersProcess Improvement / OtherRecommend and implement new or modified reporting methods and procedures to improve report content and completenessDevelop and /or automate financial reports with existing toolsUnderstand the UHC Global Solutions financial process and system tools (PeopleSoft, Hyperion, Great Plains); become an active participant in process improvements for finance and accounting systems Perform other duties as assigned Analyze and Record Financial TransactionsDemonstrate an understanding of GAAP, accounting rules and internal accounting procedures while ensuring compliance with internal controls and policiesExhibit ability to identify unusual transactions and escalate as appropriateAnalyze general ledger accounts and related activities.Demonstrate understanding of data dimensions, elements, structures and related business rules (e.g. GL string components)Demonstrate analytical and problem solving skills related to applicable area of responsibility, including the performance of month end and quarterly analyticsExhibit understanding of intercompany relationships and organizational structures (e.g. segments, legal entities) needed to record inter / intra company transactions and allocationsAnalyze intra / inter - company transactions and allocationsReview monthly account reconciliations in accordance with Company policyCreate, document, review and approve journal entries
