Medical Staffing Solutions, an established federal government contractor headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, is seeking Full-Time and Part-Time Occupational Therapists for a brand new state of the art multi-disciplinary therapy practice located in Chesapeake, Virginia. The main function of the Occupational Therapist is to provide each individual child with specific activities that will help him or her develop more normally. This involves direct therapy for sensory integration, perceptual function, fine and gross motor skills, oral motor skills, independent living skills, and the design and fabrication of splints and assistive devices
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Review the physician’s written prescription, diagnosis, and past medical history.
Evaluate the child by patient or parent interview, observation, and diagnostic and prognostic testing.
Establish short and long term goals based on evaluation results
Formulate written report consisting of history and background information, test administered and results, conclusions and recommendations, and treatment plan.
Produce written reports including “Treatment Note”, “Re-evaluation”, and “Plan of Care” as appropriate.
Administer, score and interpret standardized test.
Engage parents in the child’s therapy program. When applicable, issue a written home program for carryover at home and update as the child progresses. Encourage the parent to demonstrate new aspects of the home program during the therapy session.
Provide referrals to other specialists within the office or in the community, as indicated, with parental permission.
When the patient is discharged, complete the discharge note for the Physician. Include comments on the progress made and prognosis
Supervise and evaluate clinically affiliated students.
Participate in multidisciplinary staffing of children who receive multiple services
Degree in Occupational therapy from an approved and accredited occupational therapy program.
Upon graduation, an occupational therapist shall be allowed to practice for one year from the date of graduation or until the certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) has been passed.
Minimum of one year experience
Possession of national registration from the American Occupational Therapy Association.
Must hold current Virginia license to practice as issued by the Virginia Board of Medicine. This must be renewed every two years. This will be posted in the office.
To treat children enrolled in Early Intervention, the therapist must complete certification with the Virginia Early Intervention Program.
