We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Development Communications Specialist.
The Development Communications Specialist in the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs is a key member of the Donor Engagement and Communications (DEC) team, responsible for creating timely, accurate, and compelling fundraising-related correspondence and acknowledgement letters for the Dean and CEO and the Senior Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs. Also provides writing and editing support to staff members across the office, with a particular emphasis on, but not limited to, Special Events communications and collateral.
As the manager of the Acknowledgment Letter process, writes and edits personalized letters for the Dean/CEO and Senior Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs, and oversees the work flow and approval process for all custom letters produced within the Donor Engagement and Communications team
Working with administrative support, ensures that letters are processed and mailed in a timely fashion, and archived in the database
Updates letter tracking database consistently and maintains letter queue
Provides timely and thorough information when the Office of Development fields letter-related donor inquiries; helps maintain transparency throughout the process
Drives innovation around the donor acknowledgment experience including all types of media and communications
Offers guidance on letter-writing best practices to office
Ensures accuracy of Development's written work by providing proofing support for other projects as needed
Crafts and edits communications for the Special Events and gift teams, including solicitation letters, media reports, biographies, e-blasts, invites, and award text, as needed
Crafts and edits speaker remarks for NYU Langone-related events
Ad hoc projects to be determined at the request of the Associate Director, Senior Director or Senior Division Director.
BA or BS in Communications, English, Writing, Marketing or other related field
3+years of professional experience as a working writer, preferably in a not-for-profit space
Previous development or development communications experience and/or experience in health & wellness or a passion for the space
Understands messaging, voice, and other essential components of successful development writing projects
Works quickly but with care and attention to detail in order to accomplish tasks and meet goals accurately and excellently
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent verbal and written communications and problem-solving skills
A resiliently positive attitude with energy and drive
Highly collaborative and able to work in a team environment
Ability to maintain control under high pressure and with pressing deadlines
