SUNY Downstate is one of the nation's leading urban medical centers located in Brooklyn, NY. The Occupational Therapy Program at the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center is seeking candidates for the position of Program Chair. This is a tenure-track, 12-month Associate Professor or Professor position, offering a competitive salary and benefits beginning January 2018.
The successful candidate must demonstrate administrative, teaching, research, clinical experience and evidence of grant writing and acquisition. The individual must be committed to the concepts of interdisciplinary teamwork and increasing the diversity of the program's faculty and student body. The candidate must be committed to growing the program, including development of a post-professional OTD program.
Will report directly to the Dean of the College of Health Related Professions.
Will work closely with the Occupational Therapy Program faculty and staff and the dean of the College of Health Related Professions.
Required qualifications, skills and accomplishments: Eligible for or holds occupational therapy licensure in the state of New York. Doctoral degree. National Certification. Demonstrate expertise with leadership and management. Minimum of six (6) years of full-time experience teaching in higher education preferred. Minimum of eight (8) years of clinical experience in occupational therapy practice preferred. Clinical expertise in any areas of occupational therapy practice will be considered. Ability to mentor students through directed clinical/community research or program development projects consistent with a line of scholarly work; preference may be given to candidates with an established line of scholarly research. Ability to mentor and advise faculty. Experience using contemporary instructional technologies to deliver curricula, including distance learning modalities. Experience using management systems to support teaching. Active involvement and/or leadership role in local, state or national professional organization is required.
