The KIPP Foundation is looking for a Controller who will be responsible for ensuring accuracy and integrity of the KIPP Foundation’s financial and reporting systems. The Controller will lead a team of 5 which includes direct supervision of the Accounting Manager, the Accounting Services Manager and the Payroll Manager. This position will work closely with the Senior Director, Grants Management, the Senior Director, Financial Planning and Analysis and KIPP schools and regions. In addition, this position works with KIPP Foundation Department Managers and the KIPP Foundation Development Team. The Controller will be based in the KIPP Foundation’s San Francisco office and will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
Oversee accounting functions including the general ledger and monthly close process
Partner with Development (fundraising team) to provide grant reports to funders
Partner with Federal grants team to provide reports to Federal Government
Responsible for providing financial reporting packages to Board of Directors, Audit Committee and Leadership Team
Oversee the annual financial statement and A-133 Single audit
Financial Policies and Procedures
Ensure that financial controls are implemented and monitored
Assist the CFO in the development of accounting and financial policies and procedures, review current procedures and monitor for compliance
Develop, analyze and make recommendations relating to accounting and financial data processing systems to ensure effective and efficient financial operations
Hire, manage, coach, and evaluate members of the Finance Team, consisting of five to ten full time employees
Oversee all financial systems and ensure integrity and control requirements are met for all new initiates
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business or 10 years of equivalent experience. Either a CPA Designation or MBA is preferred for this role
Experience with nonprofit accounting systems and fund accounting
Strong preference for experience in public accounting
Proven track record of success managing and coaching others
Strong commitment to providing superior customer service
Excellent Microsoft Office skills, specifically Microsoft Excel
Comfortable working in a collaborative team environment
Ability to model KIPP’s values at all-times.
Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
Excellent organization, project and time management skills

Based in San Francisco, CA., this full-time exempt position requires occasional travel of around 10%.
