The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design and business and technology, of the State University of New York, invites nominations and applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in the Science and Mathematics Department, School of Liberal Arts.

The Department of Science and Mathematics seeks to develop students' scientific and mathematical literacy, as well as critical thinking abilities. Using a variety of instructional delivery methods and appropriate technologies, faculty provide students with the analytical skills needed to locate and evaluate technical, scientific and quantitative information so that they may contribute to and succeed in the global society.

The Department of Science and Mathematics seeks a broadly trained materials scientist with experience in applications of chemistry and physics. Teaching responsibilities include courses within area of specialty as well as materials/applications in chemistry and physics courses. Additional responsibilities include participation in the further development of courses for a minor in Materials Science (and future programs), development/revision of curriculum, and other scholarly work.

Participate in the sustainability minor and bring global perspectives based on content related to the biological sciences.
Create updates to science curriculum.
Demonstrate ability to create applied STEM examples for the classroom.
Create cross-curricular course(s) within the science disciplines.
Demonstrate capability in utilizing a variety of classroom instructional delivery methods including classroom lecture, online teaching, and hybrid teaching.
Demonstrate capability in utilizing methodologies including collaboration, group work, active learning, team project-based learning and interdisciplinary teaching.
Facilitate in students' acquisition of information and knowledge about science.
Exhibit a love of science, communicating and instilling that passion in students.
Develop students' critical thinking and problem solving skills, students' scientific literacy, and their ability to understand scientific information.
Maintain active involvement in a scholarly field in an area of science or science education.
Participate/write in science publications, present at science conferences, and maintain collaborations with other scholars in the STEM fields.
Pursue grant opportunities in STEM-related areas.
Utilize course management systems and demonstrate capability in utilizing science multimedia technology in the classroom.
Educate students in effective gathering, assessing, and use of electronic information for scientific research.
Understand evolving technologies for delivering science content, and be able to integrate these new technologies in the classroom.
Candidates must have a PhD in the appropriate scientific discipline by the date of appointment (August 20, 2018). Evidence of scholarly achievement, professional activities and teaching experience required. The successful candidate will exhibit clear promise for the development and delivery of innovative undergraduate science curriculum. Applicants in related areas specialization such as chemistry, green chemistry and physics are encouraged to apply.
