The Ottawa Hospital has an exciting temporary opportunity for the position of bilingual Ethicist.
This role provides ethics leadership and expertise at clinical, organizational, and governance levels, to partner organizations across the Champlain region of Ontario. This may include providing clinical and organizational ethics consultations, education to staff, leadership, and governance, policy development, and specific recommendations on key organizational issues. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of regional ethics resources and infrastructure, and will work in collaboration with the existing regional ethics team. This position will report to the Chief-of-Staff at the Ottawa Hospital.
This position is temporary until approximately December 31, 2018.

Master’s degree in Philosophy, Ethics, or other health-care ethics related field;
Three (3) to (5) years of relevant experience (may include clinical ethics fellowship or similar);
Graduate-level knowledge and expertise in the application and evaluation of complex ethical theories, principles, methodologies, and approaches;
Expert knowledge in the application of provincial and federal legislative requirements, clinical practice guidelines across health professions, medical terminology and conditions, Accreditation Canada standards, and relevant regulatory guidelines and policies to the clinical environment;
Ability to apply knowledge in all aspects of the position, including clinical and organizational consultations, capacity-building endeavors, and most day-to-day communications that rely on such expertise;
Ability to apply required knowledge and expertise on a daily basis, which will routinely determine the clinical, legal, and interpersonal outcomes of decisions at the front-line, organizational, and governing levels;
Ability to successfully mediate multifaceted, interpersonal dilemmas, and resolve intractable conflict. This skill, and the specialized knowledge required to undertake it, is applied in clinical scenarios in coordination with the technical skills already presented.
Access to own vehicle, and ability to travel required.
Proficiency in English and French – oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
