The Development Manager is responsible for developing and implementing fundraising tactics for the Taubman Museum of Art which includes: identifying, cultivating, soliciting, stewarding and tracking an active pool of prospects and donors.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Works in coordination with the Deputy Director of Development to initiate potential sponsorships and donations
Identifies new sources of income in the business community, the membership base and through current individual donors.
Researches potential donors to sponsor current and future museum programming
Crafts specialized proposals and pitches for prospective donors
Presents new opportunities of sponsorship or donations to current and prospective donors regularly
Handles objections of potential donors by working through a needs assessment specific to each prospective donor
Expected to provide 50% of work week on donor solicitation of donations (must maintain a minimum of 12 appointments per month); must meet monthly assigned revenue goals
Records all key interactions with donors and sponsors in the database for tracking by the development department
Creates queries and builds reports on donor giving history to facilitate development of donor prospect lists
Spearheads content and release of annual fund solicitations in coordination with the Deputy Director of Development and marketing department; includes direct mail, social media and digital components to meet annual revenue goal
Works with the Deputy Director of Development, Education and Curatorial departments to identify funding opportunities and develop recognition / benefit packages of future and current programs
Drafts acknowledgement letters and ensures donor recognition is accurately made.
Reports on impact of contributions to donors and sponsors
Assists with content and release of Annual Report via direct mail and digital promotional components
Prepares reports on income projections, fundraising plans, and budget reports for the Deputy Director of Development, Executive Director and Deputy Director of Finance and Human Resources to project and reconcile cash flow for the fiscal year.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Able to work within a fast-moving environment and to deliver results with restricted time and financial resources
Proven sales track record with experience in non-profit fund raising
Proficient in computer word processing and database systems
Charismatic, flexible, strategic team player; able to work with a diverse range of people
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Professional presentation and ability to network in all group settings
Knowledge of IRS laws governing gifts and donations to non-profit organizations
Conversant with fundraising issues and trends
Training, Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required. Demonstrated experience in successful sponsor solicitations, building relationships, and closings gifts. Minimum of three years’ experience working on a development team. Must have sales experience and a proven record of individual success of closing sales.
