The Associate Director oversees the Research Client Services team, which meets the information needs of Development by providing research products including ratings, donor profiles, event biographies, and prospect lists. The Client Services team consists of the Associate Director and 4 Senior Research Analysts. Each member of the team is responsible for working collaboratively with their assigned clients from Principal and Major Gifts, Corporations and Foundations, and/or Corporate Partnerships to fulfill the clients' research needs and to assist them with the prospect management of their portfolios. The Associate Director also assists the Assistant Vice President with overall management of the Research office, oversees the development of prospect management functions, and monitors data integrity.

Responsible for assisting the entire Division with reaching financial goals.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead Client Services team and supervise 4 Senior Research Analysts.
Provide research support for senior Development staff by creating concise, accurate, and timely research products using biographical information, financial data, news, philanthropic history, etc., and rating the giving capacity of individual prospects.
Review Research products prepared by Senior Research Analysts.
Assist the Assistant Vice President with the identification and evaluation of new research resources and manage research product templates.
Manage recruitment, hiring, and training of new Client Services staff; maintain training materials.
With the Assistant Vice President, oversee the Prospect Management collaboration between the Client Services staff and the Principal and Major Gifts staff.
Lead bi-annual Portfolio Reviews for all Principal & Major Gifts prospect managers.
Oversee completion of research for bi-weekly Group Prospect Strategy meetings, the goal of which is to help Principal and Major Gift Officers strategize on donors or prospects in their assigned portfolio.
Provide monthly reports on all completed Research services and projects to the Assistant Vice President of Research, as well as select Business Unit AVPs.
Supervise the Research Fellow for six weeks annually.
Develop agenda for annual Research planning meeting.
Participate in local and national prospect research conferences as well as internal and external management trainings.
Identify individual, corporate, and foundation prospects for current Dana-Farber initiatives.
Track and disseminate news and information about top donors and prospects.
Stay abreast of trends in prospect research and online searching.
Reports to Assistant Vice President of Development Research. Supervises 4 Senior Research Analysts. Oversees Research office in the Assistant Vice President's absence.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree required, 6-8 years experience, with a background in prospect research required. Management experience desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
The Associate Director must have the ability to work independently with superior verbal communication, organizational, and writing skills. Accountable for quantity and quality of research. Must exercise significant judgment and confidentiality in prospect research and reporting activities
Must have the ability to delegate research responsibilities and help set priorities for the Client Services team. Ability to set and define realistic goals in terms of research deliverables on an annual basis. Must be able to give and receive feedback to direct reports, and build and maintain working relationships with all of the team's internal clients, including several Business Unit AVPs.
Must have excellent prospect research skills and should be able to impart them to Research Analysts. Must be curious, focused, and knowledgeable in interpreting financial statements, stock transactions, proxy statements, annual reports and must be able to analyze the data. Must have high level writing skills as the reports and briefings prepared in Development Research are used by Trustees, the President, the Senior Vice President of Development, and other Development and Jimmy Fund staff. Should have the ability to identify and adapt to shifting priorities, be flexible and resourceful, and exercise professionalism in working with internal and external contacts.
Technical Skills: Superior skills in Microsoft applications; familiarity with Internet search strategies and online subscription services such as Lexis-Nexis for Development Professionals, Foundation Directory, Intelligize, Wealth Engine, IWave and Relationship Science.
Workstation in typical office setting. Some evening or weekend work may be required. Some use of personal vehicle for business purposes may be required.
