Under the general direction of the Registered Nurse/Unit Director performs such duties as necessary for transportation of patients and all indirect patient related activities necessary in maintaining the operational status of the department.
Fosters, participates and is knowledgeable in Shared Governance as defined at St. Mary's Hospital using the conceptual framework for nursing practice as a guide. Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional practice, continuing education and competency (i.e., mandatory inservice, staff meetings). Seeks learning opportunities.
Shares expertise and knowledge with coworkers and peers. Assists in orientation of new nursing personnel. Supports the activities, decisions and initiative of colleagues.
Functions in an "on-call" status for the Surgical Department performing all essential functions, including, performing the communication/computer systems in the department.
Assists with transfer, transporting and discharging of patients.
Delivers messages and transports equipment as assigned by the department. Returns used equipment to appropriate departments, cleaning when necessary.
Changes the linen on the stretchers. Empties the soiled laundry hamper into the laundry chute.
Completes operating room cleaning between surgical cases, the daily terminal cleaning of the operating rooms and monthly cleaning tasks as assigned. Orders and stocks supplies.
Punctual for reports/breaks. Uses supplies effectively. Completes work within required shift, i.e., end of shift; OT minimal or nonexistent.
Respects the confidentiality and dignity of patients. Communicates effectively with customers.
Performs other duties as requested.
High school graduate or equivalent
Current employees must maintain BLS certification
New hires must achieve certification within 3 months of hire
Must be able to communicate well with patients and deal effectively with others
Ability to use computer and data entry skills
