Promotes and sells Craven County to all travelers including individuals, conventions, meetings, trade shows, public shows and special events fulfilling the goals, objectives and sales action plans set forth in the Marketing Plan. Serves as Craven County's hospitality community liaison to individual travelers, conventions, meetings, trade shows, public shows, reunions and tour group planners. Work involves the day-to-day sales/services operations of the Convention and Visitor's Center. Work includes participation in the development and fulfillment of the annual marketing plan, media plans and sales action plans.
Solicit qualified clients via social media platforms & cold-calling strategies to generate sales activities and create brand awareness of New Bern-Craven County tourism and hospitality marketplace.
Track, monitor and report to the Director the spending trends and visitor statistics from the STAR report.
Communicate on a regular basis with the Director of the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center by providing a comprehensive weekly/monthly/annual sales & services report.
Assist in the development and execution of the annual marketing plan to ensure that all media, advertising, public relations and sales action plans are feasible and accomplished as written.
Develop intermediate and long-range plans for tourism development by assisting in the establishment and completion of the goals, objectives and priorities.
Serve as the point of contact for tourist-related businesses and group services including accommodations, attractions, restaurants, spouse's programs and other activities.
Prepare and distribute the meeting planner guide and press sheet on a periodic basis to promote Craven County as an overnight destination for tour groups, conventions, meetings and leisure travelers.
Attend trade shows, conferences and special events to promote travel and tourism in Craven County.
Interstate travel required to promote New Bern – Craven County as a destination for individuals and groups. Required night and weekend hours to promote travel and tourism in Craven County.
Organize and coordinate Familiarization (FAM) Tours for event planners, establish and conduct monthly Sales & Roundtable meetings with hospitality partners and oversee the quarterly Tourism Ambassador training class.
Create group sale & service leads, history reports, lead updates, pre-convention and post-convention reports and overnight room pickup reports. Provide & coordinate visitor and group services to ensure all travel and tourism entities are well represented.
Generate proposal packages for groups of all markets. Create and maintain client files complete with correspondence reports. Maintain customer and group profiles.
Provide direction and supervision to the Convention Center department staff in the absence of the Director and Assistant Director. Review applicants for hire, participate in the interview process of candidates, recommends candidates for employment, and develop initial annual reviews of subordinate employees.
Compile reports for the Director on CVC's activities for the Tourism Development Authority meetings.
Assess Convention Center availability and prepare proposals for groups as directed. Calculate economic impact for events and conventions in Craven County.
Monitor and pre-approve all advertising plans and materials submitted by advertising agency and the Sales & Communication Assistant.
Maintain CVC's memberships and participate in appropriate professional associations and travel organizations.
Represent New Bern – Craven County at travel shows and related functions such as RetireNC and Media Missions.
Evaluate and follow-up with client base for repeat business.
Monitor and track expenditures in budgetary lines – meetings, travel training, advertising & promotions, dues & subscriptions – to certify fund allocation is not exceeded within the fiscal year.
Coordinate VIP requests with hospitality partners.
Provides support for the Director and Assistant Director as requested.
Minimum Education and Experience
A bachelor's degree in communication, public relations, marketing or hospitality management preferred; or an equal combination of education, experience and training. A minimum of three years of experience in Travel and Tourism or the hospitality industry. Must have experience working with special event planners, convention and meeting planners and show promoters. Considerable experience in the development, implementation and execution of marketing plans, sales action plans and social media platforms. Certification in the hospitality, event and/or tourism industry desired.
Ability to conduct marketing, advertising, sales and customer service activities; strong verbal and written communication skills; thorough knowledge of the organization and functions of travel and tourism; ability to make decisions independently in accordance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures; ability to establish working relationships with event planners and business leaders, military representatives, chambers of commerce and tourism related organizations; ability to deal with people in a tactful and effective manner; working knowledge of computers and various customer database programs.
Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays is required.
