Basic Function: Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Specialist develops and writes solicitation and stewardship materials, including grant requests, proposals and reports, for all individual, member, corporate, foundation, and government donors, with a priority fundraising focus on the ANS Center for Nuclear Science and Technology Information. The Specialist maintains the database of current grant activities and the grant archive; researches potential donors; monitors and fulfills all grant compliance requirements; supports donor stewardship and recognition efforts and maintains a comprehensive knowledge of ANS programs. The Specialist will also maintain CRM software, including data input, analysis, and reporting.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Demonstrate a strong commitment to the vision, mission, and values of ANS and its Center for Nuclear Science and Technology Information.
Prepare proposals and reports, donor letters, research summaries, and other written materials for all fundraising efforts. Maintain high standards of accuracy, quality, and writing style.
Maintain Excel database tracking current grant activity, and manage the ANS grant archive and CRM software.
Request information from Finance (grant budgets and financial reports), programmers (content, audiences served, and impact) and staff (supplemental information and materials). Adhere to all aspects of the ANS grant process.
Research individual, corporate, foundation, and government funding sources.
Research topics and perform literature reviews as related to building a case for support for the Center and ANS activities.
Develop a comprehensive knowledge of ANS programs.
Maintain an annual solicitation calendar.
Participate on ANS interdepartmental teams and activities as assigned.
Assist in the coordination of fundraising activities at ANS meetings, programs, and events.
Assist with the planning and coordination of donor visits, both locally and nationally.
Other duties as assigned.
Ability to comprehend complex grant instructions from foundations and government agencies.
Proficient in Word, Excel, and CRM database management.
Three years in fundraising, specifically with prospecting, grant writing, and donor stewardship experience preferred.
Strong writing background, with ability to prepare a variety of materials.
Demonstrated experience reflecting competent computer skills, specifically word processing/databases.
Experience working independently and under tight deadline; multi-tasking and working on several projects simultaneously.
