Evidence for Policy Design (EPoD) at Harvard Kennedy School is a young, dynamic research initiative that brings analytical insights, typically from economics, to the design and implementation of public policies and programs around the world. EPoD directly engages with governments and local organizations to identify key questions, design innovative new policies or interventions, and test these using the tools of applied microeconomics, including large field-based experiments. Current research topics at EPoD include governance, education, entrepreneurship, health, agriculture, sustainable development, and access to finance.
EPoD is currently seeking a Finance and Sponsored Research Administrator responsible for performing a wide range of complex and confidential administrative duties related to the financial management and sponsored research administration. Under the direction of the Finance and Sponsored Research Manager, the candidate will work on a set of diverse and complex awards with multiple funding sources including variety of federal, non-federal and international funders. The candidate will communicate with and provide services to a wide range of internal and external contacts. S/he will work independently, anticipate and resolve problems; and updates supervisor on status of projects. May oversee work of support staff, students, LHTs and temps. This position is based in the US but may require travel to field locations.
Sponsored Research Administration
Assists in preparation and submission of proposals, including developing pre- and post-award budgets, interpreting grant parameters, and advising staff on allowable costs. Reviews proposals to ensure they comply with sponsor and University guidelines before submitting to Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) for submission to Donor.
Provides monthly monitoring and analyses of grants and contracts for Principal Investigators to ensure expenses are paid according to contract and government regulations within budget limit and timelines, notify PIs and supervisor about any funding shortfalls and develop a plan for contingencies.
Prepares grant reports for sponsor as needed.
Maintains tracking and monitoring system for all award sub-recipients, including reviews of complex documents, reports, etc., to assure compliance with University requirements and/or government regulations, notifying supervisor of unusual situations.
Prepares complex financial reports that may require selection, preparation, and interpretation of data.
Reviews financial data providing research and data analysis to present to center-based Research Managers for use in planning and decision making.
Reconciles monthly general ledger reports and prepares journal adjustments; maintains backup documents
May process or assist with processing payments of vendors' invoices and individual reimbursements.
Researches accounting discrepancies.
Develops and maintains a tracking system, using a variety of computer software, for deliverables, invoices, and ADI budgets.
Acquires an in-depth understanding of Harvard's accounting and financial systems through interactions with a wide range of central level administrative and center-based research staff.
Other Program Support
Coordinates and advises on the Institutional Review Board (IRB) processes.
Trains administrative staff on sponsored award policies and financial management, as delegated.
Contributes to unit goals by accomplishing related duties as required.

3 years of finance, accounting or administrative experience.
Bachelor's degree and experience in research administration or an academic department strongly preferred. Demonstrated working knowledge of financial administration and Microsoft Office. Strong writing skills. Successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency with Excel, ability to navigate enterprise Oracle applications, adaptability with new web-based tools, possess excellent organization and communication skills, competencies in all areas of job responsibilities, ability to deliver work results of high quality while managing multiple projects under time pressure, and ability to function well in a fast-paced, high-energy and changing work environment with minimum supervision.
