UW Medicine Patient Financial Services department has outstanding opportunities for a full-time, Patient Financial Services Specialist 2.
Prepare UB, HCFA, ADA and other utilized billing forms via paper or electronic means according to payor specific rules.
Prepare Accounts Receivable (A/R) transactions.
Access computer databases to obtain eligibility information.
Update patient demographic and financial information in the registration systems.
Communicate with Medical Centers' staff, patients and/or third party payors as required to obtain or verify billing information, payment, and answer questions or resolve concerns.
This Patient Financial Services Specialist 2 is responsible for considering the status of the entire patient account and for exercising judgment to determine appropriate course of action for resolution of the patient account in its entirety.
May analyze financial information provided by patients to determine their ability to make payments or qualify for charity in accordance with the Medical Centers' Charity Care Policy. Includes setting up appropriate payment plans.
May skip Trace return mail accounts.
May analyze bankrupt or deceased patient accounts.
May analyze credit balance account to determine correct action.
May receive, review, balance and distribute daily payments from various payors. Includes daily batching, balancing and reconciliation functions.
May maintain spreadsheets and write original correspondence using Microsoft Excel and Word software.
May evaluate patient accounts for accurate reimbursement based on payor contracts.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights.
Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients.
Accesses and uses the minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of and maintains confidentiality of employee information and Medical Center strategic plans and initiatives, financial information or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form which may jeopardize employee rights or organization's operations.
Accesses and uses the minimum necessary employee and organization information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.
Requirements: Level I: High School graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience in an appropriately related patient accounting function OR Equivalent education/experience.
Level II: High School graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in an appropriately related patient accounting function OR Equivalent education/experience.
Knowledge of UB, HCFA, ADA and other utilized billing forms Data Elements and payor requirements.
Ability to accurately prepare claims.
Ability to edit and submit claims electronically.
Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and public.
Ability to document work.
Ability to meet deadlines and departmental productivity standards.
Knowledge of EPIC HB Accounts Receivable (A/R) Transaction Codes and basic accounting principles.
Ability to accurately prepare A/R cash, adjustments and allowances.
Knowledge of EPIC HB system, internal filing systems, medical centers registration systems and third party databases.
Ability to retrieve data, remittance advices and other EPIC HB systems in-put.
Ability to verify eligibility and claims status information.
Ability to update EPIC HB and registration systems.
Knowledge of PFS and medical centers compliance and ethics policies and procedures.
Ability to adhere to and apply policies and procedures to work processes.
Ability to evaluate patient accounts for accurate reimbursement, refund, charity allowance or acceptable payment arrangements.
Knowledge of office machines and equipment.
Ability to use photocopier, fax, microfiche, personal computer and 10-key adding machine by touch.
Ability to provide excellent customer service to the medical centers customers.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
