Mecklenburg County in North Carolina, is seeking a Medical Director to join the Mecklenburg County Health Department (MCHD) to supervise and lead clinicians and provide medical direction for the laboratory and pharmacy in the largest Public Health Department in the state of North Carolina. To promote and protect the public's health, the Medical Director will provide medical guidance and leadership for all MCHD programs and serves as a fundamental source for coordination and communication within the medical community. The Medical Director will be equipped to create valuable and positive change among staff with the end goal of developing more committed and satisfied staff into leaders by initiating change, motivating others to deliver outstanding service to clients and patients, setting challenging expectations, and empowering staff. The incoming Medical Director must have impeccable integrity, value teamwork, collaboration, and champion outstanding service while holding high standards for self and others. About the Department and Position: Mecklenburg County Health Department (MCHD) employs 800 FTE with a budget of $77.1 M. Serving on the MCHD Executive Committee, the Medical Director is responsible for the development and authorization of medical orders/standing orders and appropriate policies and procedures, the provision of medical consultation for MCHD programs, and the medical oversight of other MCHD physicians, and nurse practitioners and other staff as assigned, and will function as a physician in Department clinics as needed. The Medical Director will work closely with the Clinic Director to assure appropriate, integrated, and efficient clinical services for the residents of Mecklenburg County. The Medical Director will join a restructured leadership team to lead a reorganizational effort designed to improve organizational efficiency, increase employee morale and improve patient outcomes.
Required Education & Experience: MD from an accredited college or university of medicine; Medical license to practice medicine in NC; Three (3) years progressively responsible management experience working directly for or with a public health agency. Preferred Education & Experience: Master’s Degree in Public Health in addition to required education; Six (6) years of senior management level experience working directly for or with a public health agency; Experience with direct oversight and/or working closely with public health clinical services, communicable disease and public health preparedness.
