And we do it all with every action focused on our shared values of Integrity, Compassion, Relationships, Innovation & Performance.The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for answering incoming calls / completing outbound calls to / from patients, physicians and pharmacists while ensuring a high level of customer service and maximizing productivity.Under supervision of Lead Pharmacy Technician and / or Pharmacy Director, performs designated technical and clerical tasks associated with the preparation, labeling and dispensing of medications, including sterile admixtures and prepackaged or unit dose drugs. In addition, performs designated tasks regarding pharmacy quality control, management of pharmacy records, inventory control and preparation of orders for drugs.Positions in this function perform various duties related to the fulfillment of prescription orders. Interprets physicians' prescriptions and creates order, accesses, inputs, and retrieves prescription information from computer system, verifies whether order is reimbursable. Dispenses any or all of the following: unit doses, specialty pharmaceuticals and injectables; may compound medications. Consults with customers, patients and / or physicians regarding use of medications and potential drug interactions. Consultations may be telephonic or in person. Reviews and approves / denies requests for prescription prior authorizations.Primary Responsibilities:Entering prescriptions and verifying appropriate informationContacting patients, pharmacists and doctor's offices to resolve claims issuesProcessing prescriptions (from intake to order completion)Resolving customer issues; ensuring accurate information is providedConstantly meet established productivity, schedule adherence, and quality standards while maintaining a good attendance recordCompletes patient orders by selecting medications as indicated on the patient medication profile; assists in preparing and labeling of intravenous medication orders including total parenteral nutrition products using proper sterile and aseptic techniquePlaces medications in designated area for pharmacist to check, sends / delivers medications as requiredIs knowledgeable with regard to the proper use and handling of hazardous medicationsCompounds and handles hazardous medications in accordance with established guidelines and regulations (i.e. USP 797)Answers phones in a courteous and timely mannerAttends to customers in a timely mannerAssists in preparation of stat items investigating and preparing missing medications and serves as a bridge between the customer and the pharmacistReorders as necessary to maintain a continuous inventory of medications and suppliesReceives, checks in and restocks medications ordered through wholesaler and other vendorsCompounds specialty drug products. Uses aseptic technique when compounding sterile drug productsCompletes accurate documentation of items compounded and repackagedPerforms quality control activities related to sterile compounding and the clean room per company policiesIs familiar with, and strives to meet, various guidelines and recommendations as put forth by various governing bodies. For example, completes documentation of refrigerator temperatures, IV hood cleaning, equipment maintenance and other activities as requiredWorks to ensure compliance with accreditation standards, State, Federal, OSHA and other regulatory standardsFollows all agency department policy and procedures. Ensures each admission meets admission criteriaCompletes other projects and duties as assigned by Pharmacy ManagementModerate work experience within own functionSome work is completed without established proceduresBasic tasks are completed without review by othersSupervision / guidance is required for higher level tasks
Required Qualifications:High School Diploma / GED Licensed Pharmacy Technician in the State of Kansas or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hireKnowledge of basic drug terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, and drug useFamiliarity with computers and Windows PC applications (this includes the ability to learn new and complex computer system applications)Ability to work from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday through FridayPreferred Qualifications:Associate's Degree (or higher)1+ years of Pharmacy Technician experience with Home Infusion or Specialty Pharmacy experienceSoft Skills:Ability to communicate and problem solve effectively with all educational levels and with a variety of professional disciplines as well as with patients, families, staff and physiciansPossess both verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal relationship skills and problem solving skillsIndependent thinking, listening, writing, and analytical skillsStrong organizational, operational and time management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneouslyPhysical Requirements and Work Environment:Lift 0 - 10 pounds frequently and up to 60 pounds occasionally Careers with AxelaCare.
