The Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is accepting applications for a non-tenure track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in the Department of Operations Research (OR). The successful candidate is expected to teach six to eight quarter-length courses each year, and has an opportunity to advise thesis students and conduct research. The department has a pressing need in the areas of statistics, cost estimation, and test and evaluation, so candidates with a strong teaching interest in these areas are particularly encouraged to apply.
The Department of Operations Research (OR) at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, is the oldest and one of the largest OR departments in the nation. The department offers several Master’s degrees in defense-oriented OR topics, and has a small PhD program. Our students are primarily military officers, who are capable, mature, and hard working. The OR faculty consists of about 45 faculty members, with about 20 on the tenure track. The major research areas of our faculty include defense-related stochastic
modeling, data analysis, optimization and simulation. Our research addresses important and challenging problems in national security and we foster close collaborations with US Navy and Department of Defense sponsors, as well as other universities.
