The College's undergraduate engineering programs have been growing at approximately 4-6%/yr for the last ten years and now has an enrollment of approximately 3300 UG students with 12 discipline-specific degree programs. Engineering students are engaged in various levels of engineering design throughout their undergraduate program, culminating in participation in senior capstone design during the senior year. The college is in the design phase of a $126M 228,000 sf building that will include a 16,000 sf student design and innovation laboratory. The overall laboratory space will be accessible to all engineering freshmen as well as have dedicated spaces for a number of the college's senior capstone design courses and other collaborative design projects/programs that occur throughout the undergraduate program. The Director will be responsible for coordination and facilitation of the design experience including:
Coordination with the Directors of the Cook Grand Challenge Honors and Jerry E. Stoneking Engage Engineering Fundamentals Programs who have responsibility for the engineering design components of the freshman programs
Coordination with the College of Engineering's Department Heads and Faculty who are currently engaged in engineering design projects that occur during the sophomore to senior years, including senior capstone design
Identification and Development of engineering design experiences that create both horizontal and vertical integration of engineering design for engineering students, including potential collaboration with other disciplines external to the college
Identification and solicitation, in coordination with existing departments/programs and the College development office, of potential external partners (government, industry, other universities, alumni and or friends of the college) who would be potential financial or in-kind supporters of the integrated design programs/projects
Assistance to all of the above with development of the engineering design projects/programs, and in some cases, possibly taking the lead in developing unique new programs that facilitate horizontal and vertical integration.
Major participation on the design team led by the Associate Dean for Research and Facilities that will be responsible for providing input to the design, layout, and functionality of the design space in the new Engineering Complex scheduled to open in 2021.
Coordination of allocation of space within the design studio in the Engineering Complex once it opens
