The Carpenter performs skilled carpentry work in theconstruction, maintenance, repair and alteration of building structures andfacilities following recognized procedures and techniques of the carpentrytrade. The Carpenter practices preventive maintenance of carpentry tools andequipment, and complies with federal regulations governing safety,environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal and the use of chemicalsubstances and materials common to construction.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Useshand and power tools such as saws, hammers, chisels, levels, drills, presses,sanders, table saws, joiners, planers, wood lathes, mortising machines andrelated carpentry tools to perform skilled carpentry work.
Performsconstruction of new walls, hangs sheetrock and doors, installs hardware,ceiling grids, tile, tile floors, and base mold; finish and trim.
Completesassigned carpentry maintenance and repair tasks with quality workmanship.
Inspectsthe work site to determine materials, equipment, tool requirements, and method;develop a plan or layout for the project or following a blueprint, sketch orschematic.
Assembles,fabricates or builds, and installs materials, equipment, or fixtures asrequired by the scope of work; provides estimate of repairs or replacement andrecommends the use of additional departmental personnel or contract personnel(as appropriate) to meet assigned completion targets.
ProtectsUniversity property and equipment from damage during carpentry repairs.
Restores office areas and facilities to theoriginal condition at the completion of work. Cleans workareas, machines and equipment.
Assistswith documenting the cost of carpentry repairs; keeps records of time andmaterials to be charged, and provides periodic status reports to the Foreman orSupervisor regarding the status of work projects, material consumed, andman-hours utilized.
Practicespreventive maintenance of carpentry tools and equipment by performing spotchecks of equipment.
Complieswith policies, laws, and regulations governing environmental protection,safety, hazardous waste disposal, and the use of chemical substances andmaterials common to carpentry work.
Providestechnical assistance in the purchase of new or replacement carpentry shopequipment.
Contributesto the overall success of the department by performing other essential dutiesand responsibilities as assigned.
