Mecklenburg County in North Carolina, is seeking an Assistant Health Director for Population Health to join the largest Public Health Department in the state of North Carolina. This newly restructured division includes Epidemiology, Policy and Prevention, and Community Engagement as core programs. The County operates with a budget of greater than $1.5 billion and over 5400 employees. Mecklenburg County Health Department (MCHD), employs 800 FTE with a budget of $77.1 M. The Population Health Division, with approximately 21 employees, will provide services throughout the County. The incumbent has the authority to perform critical decision making and the independence and discretion to establish and manage programs and serve as a resource to other entities within the Mecklenburg County Health and Human Services. This position works closely with the Health Director to assure appropriate, integrated, and efficient Population Health Services for the residents of Mecklenburg County. This Division will work intensively with community partners to facilitate/convene collaborations and address public health priorities. This position will also be responsible for facilitating connections between the other Divisions and appropriate community partners to assist in accomplishing Departmental goals. Serving on the Executive Team of the Health Department, the Assistant Health Director for Population Health will work with the Health Director and the other members of the Team to provide cohesive, transformational leadership for the Health Department. The Assistant Health Director for Population Health will join a restructured leadership team to lead a reorganizational effort designed to improve organizational efficiency, increase employee morale and improve patient outcomes.
Required Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration or related degree, six (6) years progressively responsible public health management experience working in the fields of community development and collaboration. This includes working with community partners to develop programs, develop an action plan with strategies, implementation of a program and ongoing evaluation. Successful candidates should also have direct experience conducting community assessments and using data to develop priorities and strategies to improve the health in the community, which may cross other divisions of public health; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Education & Experience: Master’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration or related degree; direct experience managing epidemiology; experience working in matrixed environment to develop strategies across divisions/functional areas in which the candidate may not have had direct lines of authority.
