Mecklenburg County in North Carolina, is seeking an Assistant Health Director for Preventive Health to join the largest County Health Department. The mission of this division is improving the wellness and health of our community, through the delivery of core public health services. About the Department and Position: Mecklenburg County Health Department (MCHD), employs 800 FTE with a budget of $77.1 M. The Preventive Health Division, with approximately 335 employees, will provide services throughout the County. Current health services include Environmental Health, Communicable Disease Control, HIV Programs, School Health, and Public Health Preparedness and Response. The selected candidate will have a track record of developing and maintaining excellent quality programs as well as be a champion for innovation in public health services and delivery. The Assistant Health Director for Preventive Health will provide oversight for the Division and assure appropriate, integrated, and efficient preventive/core public health services for the residents of Mecklenburg County. The position assists the Health Director in all aspects of managing the Division and is available to act on behalf of the Health Director in his/her absence. Serving on the Executive Team of the Health Department, the Assistant Health Director for Preventive Health will work with the Health Director and the other members of the Team to provide cohesive, transformational leadership for the Health Department designed to improve organizational efficiency, increase employee morale and improve patient outcomes
Required Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration or similar degree; Six (6) years of progressively responsible public health management experience including communicable disease, environmental health and/or public health preparedness programs; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience; Experience must include working with a Medical Director for policy guidance and medical expertise. Preferred Education & Experience: Master’s Degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Nursing or similar degree; Six (6) years of public health senior management level experience with responsibilities including communicable disease, environmental health and public health preparedness programs; Experience working closely with and/or management of a school health program.
