This position will be a lead research/data analyst on business-related research projects. The Data Analyst will be responsible for maintaining and implementing databases with specific tasks that include developing workflows for identifying, cleaning, and maintaining datasets within the database; writing detailed data documentation; and working closely with research staff to analyze and visualize data from the database. This position will also be responsible for developing documentation and training materials for both technical and non-technical audiences.
The Data Analyst will have to be able to independently manage multiple, concurrent projects or multi-faceted/moderately complex projects/programs. Specifically, the Data Analyst will consult with affiliated centers on their research and data needs, and then provide data management and analysis support throughout the research project. This position will also produce graphics (maps, graphs, tables) and reports as directed by the lead of an affiliated center or Kenan Institute management using the data.
Additionally, the Data Analyst will provide consultations to Kenan Institute student research assistants and Kenan Scholars. This position will assist students with acquiring data and train them on how to clean and analyze their data using tools like Microsoft excel, SAS, or Stata.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
-Proficiency with data analysis and statistical software such as SAS or STATA. -Ability to work both in a team setting and independently. -Strong verbal and written communications skills for both technical and non-technical audiences. -Familiarity with principles of database design.
-Master's degree in library science, information sciences, business administration, or related advanced degree preferred. -Familiarity with a broad range of business and government data sources (ie. Census, BLS, BEA, etc). -Experience delivering instruction and research support services to a variety of user populations
