The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) mobilizes communities to create equity and justice for people living with and vulnerable to HIV and related chronic diseases. We are seeking for an individual to serve as our Data Manager. The Data Manager will The Data Manager will assist with the development, implementation and ongoing use of the client services databases used by the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC). The Data Manager will play an integral role in the growth and development of the organization, as effective data management is key to meeting AFC’s strategic objectives.
Specifically, the Data Manager, along with other REDS team members, will be responsible for managing the ClientTrack case management services database and the Provide Ryan White services database, as well as any other relational databases that are created and maintained within the agency. The Data Manager will work with the REDS team to help AFC implement the use of data throughout the organization, including continued monitoring, cleaning data in preparation for analysis, and dashboard reporting.
Principal functions and responsibilities of this position include the following:
Data and Database Management
Participate in review, decision, and implementation of new online or offline software or customizations for data management including transitions from old environment;
Assist with analysis of AFC overall data/information needs and capacity for client level data, and other collection integration and execution of appropriate configurations;
Manage data maintenance and bug fixes;
Troubleshoot issues and error reports that may occur with regular data processes;
Process requests for data imports, exports, and synchronization;
Liaison with Information Technology staff and database vendors as needed with installation of database updates and maintenance;
Create test plans, test data sets and automated testing to ensure all components of the system meets specifications;
Conduct maintenance, customizations, and upgrades to the database systems as needed;
Act as the database administrator for the databases to meet the needs of the services funded through AFC;
Create queries, reports, custom reports, views, standard procedures and analyses from all AFC databases;
Coordinate with AFC programmatic teams to ensure reporting requirements are met including preparing and submitting reports as requested;
Participate in specific administrative review site visits at least annually, as needed;
Manage all data support activities to ensure consistency in data for AFC’s coordinated services system and fundraising programs;
Develop short-term and long-term data management and utilization plans for AFC in collaboration with Program Directors/Managers;
Assess and improve internal capacity to maintain AFC’s data and reporting systems;
Provide formal and informal trainings and TA for staff and partner agency users of AFC databases;
Provide technical support to standardize, update, and/or create data collection practices and tools.
Data Science and Data Analysis
Support technical aspects to analyze, define and document procedures for data, workflow, logical processes, auditing, reporting requirements and production configuration;
Support technical aspects of data quality and integrity monitoring and evaluation;
Support technical aspects of data science endeavors in predictive modeling and other analytics tools.
Assist the REDS team on other Data Science and Data Management matters as needed;
Assist with agency-wide activities as directed, including Annual Meeting, AIDS Run & Walk, and others;
Maintain and update job knowledge by participating in training and educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations;
Protect organization's value and manage risk by keeping information confidential;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field OR 1-3 years managing relational databases.
PLUS 1 or more years writing and improving SQL queries and custom reports.
2 or more years writing and improving SQL queries and custom reports.
Expertise in the use of Microsoft Access

The ability to follow up with clients in a timely manner. This includes the ability to monitor and actively participate in the continuation and completion of a task or activity to ensure follow-through and proper completion.
Knowledge of basic statistical principles, formulas, and computations and how to interpret statistical data. This includes knowledge of measures of central tendency (e.g., mean, median, mode), dispersion (e.g., standard deviation, range), frequencies, and graphs.
Knowledge of and the ability to extract and manipulate data through SQL.
The ability to prioritize, plan, and coordinate work activities, and manage resources so that work objectives are accomplished efficiently.
