Description: Assistant/Associate Professor (tenure/tenure track). This position has a 70% Research and a 30% Teaching or Extension appointment.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program in muscle biology related to agriculturally-relevant species. Candidates interested in a research/teaching appointment will be required to establish an independent, extramurally funded research program and contribute to the educational mission of the department through teaching of undergraduate and/or graduate courses. Candidates seeking a research/extension appointment will be expected to develop and maintain an independent, extramurally funded research and extension program (http://ansc.umd.edu/extension). Ample opportunities exist for an intra-departmental collaboration with current faculty members (http://www.ansc.umd.edu/people/faculty). Research in “Dual-purpose” and “One-Health” areas would be considered favorably, but is not required. Familiarity with commercial production systems is desired. Candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to working with a diverse range of clientele are especially encouraged to apply. Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a doctorate in Animal Sciences, Veterinary Sciences, or a related discipline, and experience in agriculturally-relevant research and teaching or extension. Preferred qualifications include postdoctoral experience, a demonstrated record of publication, and clear prospects or vision for extramural government, not-for-profit, and/or industry funding. For appointment as an Assistant Professor, the selected candidate will be expected to establish an extramurally funded research program. For appointment as an Associate Professor, the individual is expected to have demonstrated prior success in supporting their research through extramural funding.
Additional Salary Information: The University offers a comprehensive benefits package. The position is a full-time 9-month academic year appointment. The opportunity exists to supplement salary through summer salary support from extramural funding.
