Job Responsibilities Under the guidance of a field operations manager based in Baltimore MD, the International Student Advisor role is to ensure clear communication between students, the university, the program office and supporting entities. Through regular monitoring and close coordination with all program participants, the Student Advisor endeavors to ensure a high level of academic success, cultural integration and social responsibility for each of their assigned students in their program cohort.
MAJOR FUNCTION #1: Student Counseling, Mentoring & Monitoring
Be responsive to straight-forward issues such as grades, cultural integration and family separation issues.
Report and inform the central office, as directed; behavioral, cultural, medical or social issues that may impact a student’s success in the program.
Assist students with complex matters that involve academic failure, social isolation or legal issues that may affect their individual success.
Respond to at-risk students experiencing difficulties by addressing and documenting relevant issues and making appropriate referrals to the program office.
Advise a diverse group of students on the nuances of Western culture, American customs, and regional life in the United States.
Help lead young adults towards a balance of family, education and social opportunities in a culturally diverse environment.
Play a leadership role in planning, implementing, and developing innovative activities designed to engage the young men of the cohort in extreme, extracurricular sports such as SCUBA, skydiving, rock climbing, skiing (water and snow) and NASCAR experiences for example.
Participate in extracurricular activities with the students to build solidarity and program cohesion.
MAJOR FUNCTION #2: University Liaison
Liaise between the university and Fazko Academic departments, to implement existing curricula and future enhancements to the customized Fazko program in support of its client requirements.
Collaborate with the program director, faculty and staff of the university to develop, deliver and improve, along with Fazko Academics, new Intensive English Language Programs (IEP) that meet or exceed the requirements of Fazko’s clients.
Coordinate, on a weekly basis, with Fazko Reporting to ensure academic, attendance and university metrics are recorded on a timely, accurate and complete basis.
Ensure operational reporting requirements are met concerning the distribution and accounting for Fazko specific materials.
MAJOR FUNCTION #3: Company Field Representative
Provide timely, accurate and complete reports to Fazko on the schedules specified, to meet operational requirements of apartment inspections, asset protection, legal issues, medical issues, social integration and cultural amalgamation.
When requested, broadcast, observe or report on Fazko ESP classes at the assigned university.
Meet, on a regular basis, with leaders from the student housing to deliver timely, accurate and complete reports on apartment concerns, issues or community events that should be communicated to the students and the Fazko central office for marketing and publicity opportunities.
Plan and schedule necessary transportation for student events. When necessary, arrange for a photographer to capture memories of the events for marketing and publicity purposes.
Coordinate between the central office, the university and the US military to successfully execute Standardized Testing and deliver timely, accurate and complete results.
Twice a year, lead an online peer-seminar on the challenges, solutions and celebrations of the student cohort.
Basic: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Relevant academic skills: Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Guidance and Counseling. Liberal Arts (Humanities, Social Sciences, or Sciences), Management, and 3 years of academic advising experience in a higher education setting will be considered as equivalent.
Strong interpersonal skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as work ethic. Ability to interact and collaborate with a large, diverse population of faculty, staff, clients and students in a friendly and professional manner.
Ability to take initiative. Ability to work independently, to organize multiple tasks, and set priorities for action, in a fast-paced environment.
International perspective: Solid cultural, social and religious tolerance.
Exceptional: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrate relevant experience counseling international students.
Documented service with the US Military.
Experience living in an Islamic country (Asian or Middle Eastern)
Arabic language proficiency (oral or written)
FLSA: This is an independent contractor (MISC-1099) position.
Work Schedule: Core hours to be mutually agreed. Frequent weekend hours required, occasional evening hours. On-call status required.
