Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Associate Director - Transplant.
In this role, the successful candidate The Associate Director - Transplantreports to the Administrative Director of the NYULMC Transplant Institute, and is responsible for the regulatory oversight of the Transplant Institute. Specifically, the TRM manages all activities related to the accreditation/ certification of the transplant programs with the State, United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and other regulatory agencies as deemed necessary.
Maintains competence in transplantation regulations including UNOS/OPTN, CMS, and the State of New York. Keeps abreast of changes in regulation and communicates to Transplant Institute.
Supervises the Transplant QAPI Specialist including conducting performance reviews, directing assignments and projects, and guiding professional development.
Manages compliance through internal audits to achieve constant readiness for regulatory site visits and surveys.
Serves as the main contact person during site surveys.
Regularly reviews transplant program policies and procedures and consents for compliance and facilitates the development of new policies and procedures based on needs of the transplant programs and changes in regulatory requirements. Works directly faculty and staff to implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations.
Prepares materials for surveys and all follow-up requirements after surveys including corrective actions plans, policy and procedure edits, and any other necessary required actions.
Guides the Transplant Institute Administrative, Nursing, Medical and Surgical Directors regarding strategies to ensure good standing with regulatory agencies.
Educates staff about compliance with new and revised guidelines and regulations, or findings from internal audits. This may be done through conducting in-services, developing presentation materials for the on-line learning system, and/or coordinating staff participation in webinars or other activities.
Provides regulatory compliance orientation education for all new hires.
Participates with Transplant Institute leadership in strategic goal-setting and business planning for the transplant programs.
Directs and coaches staff to adopt behaviors conducive to continued improvement. Provides feedback on staff training and improvement to direct supervisors.
Acts as a liaison to the NYULMC Regulatory Compliance Office. Coordinates internal audits and regulatory requests from that office, and communicates transplant information to that office.
Studies workflows and identifies opportunities for building effectiveness and excellence.
Utilizes diverse data sources to identify problem areas, examine errors, quantify and measure program performance and outcomes.
Prepares and distributes a quarterly Compliance Status report.
Assists with the annual update of the UNOS Request for Information (RFI) and other managed care requests.
Attends regional UNOS meetings to represent NYULMC interests and gather information to communicate back. Manages compliance through internal audits to achieve constant readiness for regulatory site visits and surveys.
Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Masters degree in a health care field. A minimum of three - five years of experience in healthcare with demonstrated knowledge of regulatory compliance.
Preferred Qualifications: Registered Nurse. Prior experience in transplantation regulation and/or transplant quality assessment and performance improvement preferred. Advanced understanding of transplant regulatory requirements. Competency in data analysis and policy development. Auditing background and education with focus on process performance. Development of mechanisms for implementing compliance with all levels of staff. Prior experience supervising employees.
