Complete complex and variable billing of claims to government payors (Medicare/Advantage Plans), skilled nursing facilities, home health agencies, hospices, and other hospitals. Ensure claims are coded in accordance with national and state billing requirements. Billing may include some or all of the following duties:
Prepare and submit timely and accurate electronic and paper UB-04 and CMS-1500 claims to Medicare/Advantage Plans for inpatient & outpatient facility and professional fees. Electronic billing is done through Epic and Claim Logic utilizing claim edits. Also submit and resolve claims in the Medicare Part A via FISS (Fiscal Intermediary Standard System) DDE (Direct Data Entry) software.
Review all claims for CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10-CM, and modifier coding accuracy and make corrections as appropriate. Research medical records and systems for information as necessary. Follow applicable regulations including CCI edits, OCE edits, and both Local Coverage Decision and National Coverage Decision policies. STANDARD: Inpatients billed within 24 hours of receipt Outpatients billed within 5 days of receipt Prepare and submit paper and electronic inpatient and outpatient Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) claims to Medicare in accordance with all MSP regulations and claims to payers secondary to Medicare. Prepare and submit paper and electronic inpatient and outpatient claims to payers secondary to Medicare/Medicare Advantage in accordance with all regulations and industry standards. STANDARD: Billed within 5 days of receipt
Responsible for working all accounts in assigned Epic workqueues. FREQUENCY: Daily
Process adjustment claims to report claim changes to Medicare via Claim Logic or FISS DDE or successor software. Make other claim corrections (resubmit, redetermination, etc.) as appropriate to resolve billing errors.
ACCURACY STANDARD: 95% CUSTOMER SERVICE
Receive incoming phone calls relating to issues with patient accounts and analyze thos accounts as requested. Explain financial procedures and policies concerning patient balances. Update account information as needed.
Review inappropriate charges, determine which accounts should be escalated for supervisor attention, and take necessary steps to resolve customer concerns. Job Requirements REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of recent (within the last 5 years) experience billing or collecting healthcare accounts in a business office; OR Four years of general collection, billing or customer service experience; OREquivalent combination of education and experience. Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist (CRCS) is required within one year of hire. Positions in School of Dentistry may not require certification.
