Manages the Graduate Nurse Residency Program, including collaboration with Human Resources to recruit graduate nurse residents and the development and implementation of program curriculum. Oversees resident progression through all program components and develops innovative strategies for retention of graduate nurses.
Participates with Human Resources in the recruitment and hiring of graduate nurse residents, including acting as a team member to develop recruitment strategies and actions to ensure a seamless and successful hiring process.
Develops and implements the graduate nurse residency program curriculum, in collaboration with applicable governing bodies and committees. Conducts and coordinates classes, skills verification labs, specialized courses, group sessions and other activities.
Acts in a leadership role for the program, chairing applicable committees, articulating program needs, monitoring the budget, and reporting program issues to Director. Participates in the development of strategies for retention of graduate nurses.
Functions as a liaison between disciplines and departments to ensure a smoothly coordinated residency program, including facilitating meetings, and identifying and responding to daily problems.
Skills and Abilities
Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
*3 years of medical surgical, intensive care or specialty nursing experience in an acute care setting.
*Instructional teaching experience, both formal and informal.
*MSN in nursing from a nationally accredited program. Internal candidates may hold a BSN if an MSN is in progress.
*State licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider and any relevant unit certification requirement.
*: BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course.)
* Due to Point of Care Testing duties associated with this position, upon hire, a copy of highest level of education (diploma, degree, or transcripts) would be required to present to the hiring manager. If this is available to you at this time, please attach it with your resume in one document.
* 5 years of medical surgical, intensive care, or specialty nursing experience in an acute care setting. Three or more years of instructional experience, both formal and informal.
