The Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University is looking for an energetic and multi-talented individual with clinical science expertise as Clinical Research Development Coordinator/ Clinical Research Lab (CRL) Director. This individual both supports and advises clinical faculty in their research initiatives and secondarily provides administrative oversight of the Clinical Research Lab.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary role of the individual holding this position is to provide guidance and support to faculty within the department seeking organized research opportunities, especially newer and/or primarily clinical faculty seeking governmental research funding and involvement in industry trials. This position would include identifying funding opportunities for faculty and support of research proposals to the point of its transfer to pre-award grant administration representatives within the department. The most common type of investigator assisted is one without an established research program. In this endeavor the desired candidate would interface with government, industry and foundation funding sources, support and assemble funding proposal information (to include budget justification, bio sketches, specific aims, research strategy, resource sharing plan, abstract, equipment, project narrative, references cited and letters of support) and provide direction of investigators to resources, services and investigational cores within the university and to the project coordination and regulatory services which the CRL offers.
In addition, the individual in this position may play a key role in writing components of progress reports once funding is obtained. This position also provides direction and support services to investigators throughout Washington University performing imaging research and seeking collaboration with clinical radiology investigators. Additional responsibilities include oversight of the CRL manager and a team of approximately 10 research coordinators, regulatory support and research billing personnel.
Qualified individual must have an understanding of organized clinical research and research project management. This position reports to the department of radiology’s Senior Vice Chair for Radiological Research Facilities.
Must have Bachelor’s degree. Prefer a Master’s degree in business or healthcare. Previous supervisory experience may be helpful.
Advanced degree and at least 5 years related experience.
Medical or clinical care/sciences related knowledge required.
Direct significant experience required in clinical trials management and trial budget preparation experience.
Experience in designing research proposals, emphasis on NIH research proposals. Experience with Clinical Research Organization (CROs).
Basic computer literacy required, including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and internet expertise.
Must have superior organizational skills, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to articulate and understand developing complex research projects.
Understanding of medical terminally is required.
Must be an independent, professional worker able to establish priorities and relate to various levels of the university.
Supervisory experience and familiarity with university financial systems preferred.
This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.
