Since 1991, The Cara Program has placed over 3,750 at-risk individuals into permanent, quality jobs at average wages more the $2.50 higher than Illinois minimum wage and 70% one-year retention rates (20 points higher than national one-year employment retention rates for similar industries).
We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. The ideal candidate for the Staff Accountant position will thrive in a fast paced non-profit environment and will be responsible for the following:
Maintaining accounting records in the General Ledger with a focus on daily cash receipts and disbursements activity.
Deposit checks and process daily online donor pledges, maintaining proper documentation.
Process billings, generate invoices, and record cash receipts for two subsidiary businesses.
Process and record invoices and credit card activity.
Maintain petty cash inventory.
Participation in the month-end and year-end close process including reconciliation and analysis of accounts.
Preparation of periodic financial reports and data requests and assist with the budgeting process.
Assist with all financial audits including annual fiscal audit and government grants audits throughout the year.
Ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures by all staff.
Provide back up for accounts receivable, revenue, expenses, and disbursements when needed.
Keep scanned records up to date.
Assist with ad hoc projects and assignments.

Qualifications & Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) required with an emphasis in Accounting or Finance preferred.
Knowledge and/or experience related to non-profits a plus.
Analytical and cost accounting experience is preferred.
Highly organized with the ability to meet deadlines is essential.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required. FundEZ and Salesforce knowledge is a plus.
Have a high level of self-motivation and be very detail oriented.
Solid oral and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Strong analytical, conceptual, prioritization, facilitation, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
