Teach a wide variety of undergraduate/graduate classes. Among the classes taught may be exercise science, health and physical education classes such as exercise physiology, advanced fitness assessment & prescription-aerobic, advanced principles for strength & speed, nutrition, disease prevention & epidemiology, and community or individual health/fitness promotion.
Incumbent may teach other major program and liberal education courses as needed by the department
Commitment to quality teaching. The faculty member should anticipate involvement with interdisciplinary teaching.
Contribute to a program of scholarship within the discipline, academic advising of undergraduate students, service to the department, university and community, and other associated faculty duties.
Contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and distance learning delivery; involvement in activities that support Bemidji State University's signature themes: Environmental Stewardship, Civic Engagement, Global/Multicultural Understanding.
Contribute to a collegial and supportive environment that advances departmental goals, including curriculum development, program/course assessment, student advising and internship placement and other departmental governance activities.
Knowledge of or willingness to learn and utilize D2L BrightSpace, Task Stream, and deliver distance online courses guided by Quality Matters.
Participate in Departmental and University assessment, and demonstrate a knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations.
As a member of the graduate faculty, fulfill all duties and responsibilities expected of graduate faculty.
Ph.D., Ed.D or ABD considered (terminal degree must be completed by tenure decision year) in Exercise Science/Physiology, Kinesiology, or related field from a regionally accredited institution at the start of employment required.
Knowledge and the skill to facilitate student learning in exercise assessment and prescription, including the measurement of blood pressure, heart rate, maximal oxygen consumption, respiratory function, physical activity, skinfolds, flexibility and strength. This requires the use technical lab equipment such as accelerometers, calipers and a metabolic measurement system.
Knowledge of motivational interviewing, client risk stratification, and power/Olympic lifting techniques.
Experience in exercise testing; speed/agility, strength and general fitness evaluation.
Experience in group exercise leadership, client/patient care, and individualized exercise program design.
Commitment to quality teaching through demonstrated effective communication skills, teaching skills, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and willingness to contribute to departmental goals.
Undergraduate degree in health, physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, or related field
Current ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist and/or NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification
Knowledge of disease prevention, community or individual fitness/health promotion, and nutrition will be considered.
Minimum of 2 years of recent work experience related to academic preparation required; work experience related to exercise science
Certified by the AHA or ARC to teach First Aid and CPR/AED is beneficial.
Skills/ability to design and willingness to deliver online courses required; experience with course management software, such as D2L Bright space and knowledge of Quality Matters standards
