Working as part of the Center for Veterans and Servicemembers and Student Financial Services teams, the Veteran's Services Specialist is a primary customer service representative for current and prospective military and veteran students. This role is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs education benefit certifications and Yellow Ribbon award calculations. The successful Veteran's Services Specialist:
Provides outstanding customer service to prospective and enrolled student veterans by offering a single point of contact for coordination of all University services;
Maintains thorough knowledge of veteran's educational benefits to provide the best possible information to prospective and enrolled student veterans to help them maximize their eligibility;
Works with relevant enrollment offices to develop and implement strategies to enroll and retain highly successful student veterans;
Works with appropriate University offices to create and deliver meaningful and relevant orientation programming for new and transfer undergraduate, graduate and professional student veterans;
Serves as a School Certifying Official and collects all required documentation from student benefit recipients;
Ensures timely and accurate processing of enrollment and benefit records with the VA and perform all tasks associated with VA benefit certification;
Calculates, processes, reconciles and monitors Yellow Ribbon benefits for qualifying students;
Maintains accurate records to show academic progress of each VA benefit recipient and ensures compliance with state and federal recordkeeping guidelines;
Performs periodic audits of VA benefit records for purposes of quality assurance;
Is knowledgeable about the university's academic, financial, and student affairs policies, programs, and procedures;
Appropriately refers student veterans experiencing difficulty to the appropriate University service;
Assists student veterans with filing of disability documentation and advocate on behalf of their special needs;
Proposes and maintains quality veteran-related content on the University website;
Hires, trains and supervises student help to support goals and objectives;
Assists and supports the Director of Veteran and Military Services as needed
Bachelors degree; 3-5 years experience working in enrollment management and/or student affairs setting. 3-5 years experience working with veterans educational benefits, demonstrated success working with a diverse student population. Ability to multi-task, be self-motivated, organize time and work under pressure and deliver quality outcomes on time; commitment to excellence in student service.
